    grateful

The main functions of the society are to assist the sick and the elderly in every way and to help improve the home facilities available for the safety, welfare, comfort and convenience of the sick and the elderly in Gozo.

This is achieved by means of the community care equipment loans service. The service is run by volunteers and the cost of the equipment is funded only by donation for use of the equipment, membership subscriptions and fund raising.

FSEG supports the Meals on Wheels service in Gozo and the Monday visiting group to the long stay geriatric wards at Gozo General Hospital and acts as a pressure group as and when required.

It has representatives on the Gozo Meals on Wheels Monitoring Committee and the National Council for The Elderly.

  • Projects

Over many years, the funds we collected have been used to donate much needed items of equipment to the various departments in the Gozo General Hospital, including Rezidenza Sant'Anna, the Male Elderly Residence, and the Psychiatric Wards for the benefit of patients and staff. (See Donations and Loans section).

In 2009 we co-operated in the setting up of Meals-on-Wheels in Gozo and continue to be committed to run the cooking and delivery service for the meals on wheels that is delivered in a vehicle we donated for the purpose.

We help also the homes for the elderly run charitably by the Dominican and Carmelite nuns in Victoria.

Since 2009, the FSEG ongoing project has been to cater for the needs of the sick and the elderly in their own homes by providing pressure-relieving mattresses, electrically-controlled patient lifters and variable-position beds.

fseg opening Dec2011 500This service encourages and assists family members to care for bedridden patients at home and helps relieve pressure on beds for the elderly in hospital and nursing homes. In addition we continue to supply wheelchairs, walking aids, commodes, etc., which the hospital seems to have been unable to loan out for years.  This project is now well established and expanding.

On 5th December 2010, with the help of Rotary Club Gozo, we opened a Storage and Distribution Centre at the M.A.S. Residential Complex in Ghajnsielem for our equipment loan sevice. In 2017, we hope to move to new purpose designed property, courtesy of the Government
